This is a version for you to listen while you are travelling or for gallery and exhibition display.
How would you keep your memories of one place? On the other hand, how would you reveal the history and culture of a place?
In order to preserve and discover a place’s history and culture, I have setup a soundwalk to walk across the present and past transport hub at East Tsim Sha Tsui through listening to the sounds of different sources recorded or found from the field. Spectators can listen to a podcast compiled with the above mentioned elements, observe the place and travel through times.
Listen to the auditory characteristics and scenes of different districts in Hong Kong, recorded on location and presented geographically. Listen N.T.: includes Lantau and other outlying islands, West N.T. and East N.T.
This is the precursor of the Listen.HK series. Ambient sounds are all around us every day. However, people might think that they are noisy and disturbing. So, we always ignore them by plugging in earphones listening to music or some other stuff. And actually, I think that they are interesting and can be a kind of music piece.
I record some soundmarks in Hong Kong which they are very important, memorable and interesting to me. And most importantly, they should be part of my everyday life. I arrange them in the form of diary writing. Audience may visualize my own daily experience through listening to the piece.
